Feature Model Interview week of March 24-28th

How did you come up with your boutique name or ebay id?

I surf (in the ocean), my name is Kelly and I am a mom. Pretty basic and silly. I have been wanting to change it, but this has been my name forever and its what people identify with.

What is your model's favorite color?

Well this week I think its green, it could be purple or blue at any given time.

Do you remember the first thing you modeled for an eBay designer?

Yes it was this cute little surfer set from a designer that isn’t on Ebay anymore.

What does your model's favorite meal include?

Sydnee could live on Sushi, she loves raw salmon and California rolls made with soy paper and no cucumbers and steak that is cooked rare and zucchini.

If you could learn one new skill, photography related or not, what would it be?

I think most everyone knows that I don’t sew and I would love to learn how. The last time I was at my Mom’s, she had me try to put a deco set together and I literally cried after an hour or so. I was so frustrated. I can see it in my head but can’t do it.

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

I’ve been all over the world, but the one place I want to go is Egypt. I want to dive in the Red Sea and see the pyramids. Larry won’t go or let me go (and coming from him that is huge since he “lets” me do about anything). Once its safer he said we can go!

What does your model like to do when not modeling?

She loves to draw, paint, surf, swim, play with her new puppy and her pet shop toys. She LOVES having play dates too, that is so big for us right now.

Does your model have a favorite movie or book?

Sydnee can watch Alice in Wonderland over and over, she loves it. We have this book called “spot this” and we have to read it every night and spot the things in the book.

Does your model like music? do you listen to it during photo sessions?

She loves music. We listen to a lot of Christian music and she really loves it. Usually during our sessions we sing to eachother and just have fun that way.

Are you affiliated with any model groups?

I run Picture This Boutique with a few other model moms and designers. It’s a group of term models and some designers and we do quarterly launches and just have fun.

Does your model have any unusual talents?

Sydnee learned how to surf at age of 4 and still does. Other than that her talent is that she can’t be quiet!

Tell us something unique about your model?

Sydnee is really tall and she looks a lot older than she is but she’s only 4.5 years old. I think that she likes raw fish is pretty unique or even odd. Yep my kid is odd!

What advice would you give a beginner learning to sew?

I asked this question on a couple of the boutique boards. This is what some of you had to say.

Trace your patterns on wax paper in the sizes you need instead of cutting up your patterns. This way the pattern stays in one piece yet you have it in all different sizes when you need it! - Talia*Couture

Be patient with yourself, remember that you did not learn to ride a bike in one day and sewing is much like that. Take your time and do not rush, pay attention to details. Because you can have cute things, but if it is not well constructed, you will not have repeat customers. - BoutiqueSheSheBaby

I would tell her/him that when it somes to the sewing...measure twice, cut once. I can't count the number of times I've had to toss pieces because I cut them backwards or inside out or upside down or....... So teach yourself to take the time to make sure of what you're doing before putting the scissors to it. - 1herosmom

Dont' be afraid to throw away the instructions. Who says you have to follow all of the hard and tried rules that grandma, and mamma taught you. Think outside the box, we all have unique ideas....try them out. If it doesn't work, you will still have learned something. - Kris*s*wonders

When ruffling 2 layers together using a ruffler foot, I've learned to serge the top edge of the 2 layers together- it gives something for the "teeth" to catch and makes for a nice, even ruffle.
Always be sure to wash questionable fabric- it really stinks to have colors run on an outfit you've worked so hard on.
When I applique on a knit fabric, I find that plain computer paper makes a great stabilizer. I just pin it to the underside of the fabric around the applique and it tears away easily when you're all finished.
I also like to make detailed notes when I make an outfit for Madeline- especially how much fabric I used for each component. That way it's easy to see if I have enough to make another outfit, or if I need to buy more fabric - Madelines*Minky

PRESS AS YOU GO!!! You need to press your fabric as you go along. You'll have permanents wrinkles or lines in the finished outfit if you don't remove them in the construction stage.
One of biggest pet peeves in custom outfits....Is a listing that looks wrinkled or messy in the pictures. Who would want to buy it???? - Hot.Tots.Cool.Kids2

Mama T's thought/verse of the day

3/24 Nothing new can come into your life unless you are GRATEFUL for what you have.

I am not sure where this came from, but I have it posted in various places around my home. I think it is so true. It's another one of those things that shows someone has a good attitude.

3/20

" Small men always talk about problems, great men always talk about solutions and business geniuses find opportunities in these problems." - Author Unknown

So if you stop complaining about things and start finding solutions, you will be better off. Makes a lot of since to me.

3/19

For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; and drowsiness shall clothe a man in rags. Proverbs 23:21

So laziness is not the way to be successful. We cannot sit and expect success to find us. We must earn it. We must be diligent in working and getting things done. Then you cannot fail. Just my opinion on the subject.

My 3 Little Monsters!!!

So todays post is to introduce you to my 3 little monsters. They are not so little any more, but to me they are still my babies (and of course sometimes monsters.)

First I have Little Mama. She is 13 going on 25. She tends to be wise beyond her years and she will talk your ear off if given the chance. She is an aspiring entertainer....i.e. singer/dancer/actress. It's an ambitious dream but I think she can accomplish anything she puts her mind to. You are sure to hear more about her as she enters her teenage years.

Then I have 10 yr old, My Tomboy.....now she isn't really a tomboy, but to distance herself from her sister she swears that she is and that she's not a girly girl. She actually likes to dress up and has a very unique sense of style. She seems to have this self confidence that just oozes from her and she just doesn't care what those around her think. She loves to model and have her picture taken and has an infectious smile.

Last and certainly not least is my Tasmanian devil. Now don't misunderstand me, he is a good sweet kid and probably the most affectionate of my children. He is just a little whirlwind. He has more energy than about 5 children and will wear you out!! With ADHD and a seizure disorder to boot, he is a challenge, but of course we wouldn't change a thing. He is 8 and it has taken me this long to learn how to manage him, but we are getting there. He also is too stinking smart for his own good. He actually scored near genius levels on recent cognotive evaluations which helps us to understand all his eccentricities. You will probably hear lots of his antics in the future!!

These are my little monsters......and I do mean that with the greatest of affections!

So I finally did it!

It only took me a whole day, but I did it!! I re-organized my sewing room/office.

I had to start by going thru my fabric stash and purging the oldest fabric. Some of it I've had for over a decade, and if I haven't done anything with it so far, than I'm probably not going to. (Goodwill is going to love me.) Then I started putting fabric back in it's place neatly folded, stacked by fabric type than color combination.

Then I started going thru drawers. You know sometimes you think you want to use a drawer for one thing and then when you actually start using it, you find something else would go there better. Well, we've been in this house for 3 years.....it was time to move some things around to make it more efficient. I also organized my thread by type and hung some more corkboard for my tools.

Now I just have to finish all the UFO's (unfinished objects) that I found. (You see them on both pictures at the end of the counters. On one shot there's a whole box of UFO's) Here's a challenge for you. Try finishing up one project a week that you've previously laid down and forgotten about and then send me the pics and I will showcase them on the blog!

So here's the fruits of my labor.

I'm a virgin no more!!

I am a virgin no more!! This is my first blog. I have done a little research, but all in all I really don't know much about it.

Now, about my blog. I am creating this blog as a networking tool. I am the leader of one design group on eBay and the coleader of another and a moderator on several more. As I have continued to learn in my journey as a WAHM, I realized that there just aren't that many resources out there for those of us artists who create with fabric.

So come learn with me. I will be adding daily blog entries and showcasing many different artists and designers. I promise, it won't be painful, it might be humorous and you just might learn something along the way. :)
