but I have been doing some major research on homeschooling. All three of my children attend the public school system, but as they get older I am feeling more and more that the public school is not the right place for them. I will not debate the pros and cons of either choice with you, because it's just that. A Choice! One that parents should make for their own children. I would not want to force my choice on someone else's kids any more than I would want your choice forced on me.
However, the things I am seeing in the school system these days deeply disturb me. From the way I hear that the teachers are talking to my children (I have 2 middle schoolers and one in elementary), demeaning and insulting them for making simple mistakes to the teachers that are contributing to an increasing trend of parents using the school system as babysitters. Then there's the issue of the our religious or cultural rights being infringed on. It's become such an issue for Christians in the public schools that Christmas can't be celebrated, but we can celebrate any other religions holiday without problems. I know of an elementary teacher who taught her class about her religion and culture (she was of Asian descent), but talking about Christ or the reason for the season wasn't allowed. One of my daughters was told that she couldn't read her bible as part of her daily required reading, but reading the local newspaper was allowed.
We have had so many issues over the last few years that I can't begin to tell you. I have been doing some research on homeschooling and I came across some interesting things.
First, I hadn't heard about the fight going on in California and the right of parents to educate their children. Check out this site.
http://www.schoolandstate.org/parentrights.htm
Pay special attention to the article on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Our right to choose for our children is under attack.
Then check out this site. It's a great informational blog topics of education.
http://educationconversation.wordpress.com/
While you're there make sure to check out this comedic video on the topic of education. It actually makes a lot of sense. It's on this page.
http://jacklewis.net/weblog/archives/2008/08/education_comed.php
That's all I am gonna say for today. Just check it out and make the decision for yourself.

Inaction leads to fear, fear leads to procrastination!
Remember how I was talking about fear holding me back and making me procrastinate? Here is a great daily motivational about the same thing.
CONQUER YOUR FEAR WITH ACTION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood.
When you dare to face the things that scare you,
you open the door to freedom.
Most of your obstacles will melt away, if, instead of cowering before them
or procrastinating about dealing with them, you make up your mind
to walk boldly through them.
Don't be afraid to take the steps you need to take to make those positive
changes in your life.
To fight fear, you must act.
Waiting, putting off, or postponing
only increases fear.
If you understood enough, you would never be afraid.

How to post a picture almost anywhere!!
I think sometimes we forget that even though we've been doing this for a while, there are still people who are just coming into the boutique custom "world" and don't know anything about it. So begins a series of informative posts to help you out whether you're just starting out or been doing this while.
My first tutorial is on posting pictures, either in groups or in listings. Please keep in mind that even though I've been doing this awhile, I do NOT know everything. So if I'm wrong on something or you have an extra bit of info to share, please comment and share that with everyone else, but PLEASE be nice!!
You will need a picture and a picture host like photobucket. If you do not have a picture host yet, I recommend photobucket because it's free and pretty user friendly.
Ok, first of all, you will need to upload your picture to photobucket. Once you are done you will see a few different links under your picture. The first one is a DIRECT LINK. This link allows someone to click on it and for a page with nothing but your picture or your photobucket page to come up. The next one probably says HTML CODE....this is the one we are using. The HTML CODE is simply pasted as is onto your post or listing and when the browser reads it, the picture will show. HTML is just a computer language that is giving your internet browser directions on how to display your page.
Your HTML code should look like this(note photobucket's will be a bit longer):
< img src="http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x221/sewrtess/mydesigns/monkey1-2.jpg" >
You can see that the string of info starts and ends with < and > . These show the browser the beginning and end of your command. In this string I have placed a space before and after each < and >.......this actually breaks the command and the picture WILL NOT show.
Now, if you don't want to just copy and paste the links or you are using a different host with no html codes provided than you can do the commands yourself. All you will need is the direct link (http://yourpicture.jpg) or the url to your picture.
You start with the < just as in the other html commands. Then you tell the browser that this is a picture or image..... thus the command looks like this
< img src = ......it means image source. Next you put your direct link or url in parenthesis, and then close the command. It should all look like this.
< img src ="url or direct link" >
Remeber to close the spaces before and after the < and > and the picture will show!! Common mistakes I find when correcting peoples HTML is spaces before and after the < and >, a space after the =, one or the other parenthesis missing, or an open command (missing one or the other < or >).
Go to www.practiceboard.com to try out your new HTML talent. Have fun and don't be scared to play around with new things. There's so much you can do with pictures and HTML!!

The Carrot, the egg and the coffee bean!
The Carrot, the Egg, and the Coffee
A carrot, an egg, and a cup of coffee...You will never look at a cup
of coffee the same way again.
A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how
things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to
make it and wanted to give up, she was tired of fighting and
struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose..
Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water
and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the
first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the
last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil;
without saying a word.
In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the
carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and
placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it
in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, ' Tell me what you
see.'
'Carrots, eggs, and coffee,' she replied.
Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She
did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the
daughter to take
an egg and break it.. After pulling off the shell, she observed the
hard-boiled egg.
Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The
daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then
asked, 'What does it mean, mother?'
Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same
adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went
in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to
the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been
fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but
after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened.
The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the
boiling water, they had changed the water.
'Which are you?' she asked her daughter. 'When adversity knocks on
your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee
bean?'
Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but
with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my
strength?
Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the
heat?
Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial
hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff?
Does my
shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a
stiff spirit and hardened heart?
Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot
water, the very circumstance that brings the pain.. When the water
gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the
bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the
situation around you.
When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest do you
elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are
you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?
May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to
make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to
make you happy.
The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;
they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.
The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you
can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and
heartaches.
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was
smiling.
Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and
everyone around you is crying.\
So which one are you, the carrot, the egg or the coffee bean?

So School starts tomorrow!
Finally, I will have a little peace and quiet tomorrow. The kids start back to school in the morning. I should be sad that the summer is over and I guess that a part of me is, but I am so ready to have my days back so that I can work on my sewing.
The kids have everything they need. We went yesterday and bought the last of their school supplies. Everyone is ready to start. My little monster will be starting his first year without his sisters in the same school, and both the girls are in Middle school this year. I expect a rocky start, but I know they will all adjust as they always do.
So for the rest of today we are gonna finish up some last minute preparations, get into those school year routines like packing lunches and reading nightly. We are also trying to make sure everyone starts off with a clean organized room. So I am off to finish up that and start my to do list for the week.
Good luck to all the youngins who haven't started school yet this year. Here's to a great year!

Dr. Seuss’s widow strikes again
This was taken from a post on ALTB. I thought I might try and help pass the word for Heather. Also as seen on her blog http://daisyheadmaisydesigns.wordpress.com/
Her new eBay ID is goosiegirl_boutique
Hello everyone!
Thank you so much for the invitation. Most of you already know me (I have a new ebay id)~and I'm so happy to be back.
I'd like to take a minute to tell everyone why I have a new id...and it goes a lil' something like this~
(please help me spread the word)...
Once Upon a Time,
A designing mom worked hard to establish
herself in the market...
She created a business of her very own making,
but Dr. Seuss said,
"Our name you are taking"
"Daisy Head Mayzie is a Suess character, you see,
We know you spell if different, but you are infring-ing
"Don't make us open up a can and get all grinchy
they said with a frown
we will take your to court and bring your reputation down
"This hard working mom never said she was related
but the cat in the hat's widow argued and negated
Get rid of your website, ebay id, & etsy shop all together,
It doesn't matter that you've had this name for 4 years,
inconsequential and naive, little Heather!
Through the face of it all, this mom thought she'd persist
Until she was served with a cease and desist
The name has been canceled, but the business
will go on
Perhaps it wouldn't matter if she were in Taiwan?
The mom will go on and build a costume empire,
in the face of adversity while coming under fire
from the stingy widow of the cat in the hat
the mom will start over, and come right back
This talented mom will bring costumes to the world,
raggie bows she will make and rolls of tulle will unfurl,
Word to the wise, don't mess with a mom who's
got to feed her kids
by selling on etsy and getting ebay bids
Top quality tutu gowns and cute girly things,
will continue to flow from the hands of this
dedicated mom....
You'll soon be able to find her doing business at
www.GoosieGirlBoutique DOT com
*****************************************
(Yes, it's true, I was served a cease and desist order from the attorneys for Dr. Seuss's widow).
I had to change my ebay id, and I will have to close my etsy shop & reopen it w/a new name, change all my ebay templates, me page & graphics, get new business cards & hangtags AND the biggest heartache of all...
change the name of my blog, and stop doing business on my website that I've worked so hard to establish!!
I'd appreciate it if you'd save my new website, located at:
GoosieGirlBoutique DOT com
(it should be up next week). Please tell your friends & bookmark me, it's devestating for a business to have to re-establish themselves after working so hard. I never attempted to make it appear that I was affiliated in any way, shape or form with the Seuss character or their organization, but apparently they don't care about that. I'm looking forward to this new journey and hope that you'll drop a comment of support off at my blog where I posted this story, I've been told Seuss's attorneys have bookmarked it~ROFL! (http://www.daisyheadmaisydesigns.wordpress.com)
I've seen the boutique community come together and support designing Moms for so many things and I hope that my word of mouth campaign to let people know about my new business name, will spread like wildfire.
Long live the WAHM and Designing at Home, Handmade Movement!
~Thank you so much welcoming me back into the fold & for reading this!!

Product Review/trade off
Check this out!!!
A few months back I did a product trade with another member of Moms United in business, Cailin Yates. I created some custom clothes in trade for some Arbonne products.
She finally sent me some pics of one of the outfits and posted the review of the products she sent me.
Check out her blogs.

Here's the pictures she took!
Here's my review of her products!
"I have to say I am very pleased with what I received. I have already told Cailin this, but we loved the body butter she sent to me and my daughters. All the kids loved the vitamin punch singles..... .a great way to get your kids to take vitamins. The chocolate vitamin chews were a hit too.....I had to hide them from the whole family or they would have made themselves sick eating them, LOL.
But overall, my all time favorite out of everything had to be the NrgGO3 fizzy tabs. They are packaged as a weightloss aid/energy drink. Well I recently caught a nasty head cold and nothing in the house sounded good. I felt awful and still had lots of work to do. I decided to use a NrgGo3. I realized by then end of the 2nd day that while drinking them I felt so much better I forgot that I was sick. But on the 3rd day I was too busy running around and never got around to having one and I felt awful again. They really made a difference. So much that my husband commented that I really got over the cold fast........ .not sure if that's a good thing, LOL. But I felt so much better!!!!! Just imagine how good you would feel if you were well and taking them?
Thanks so much Cailin. It was definitely a pleasure doing business with you!"

I'm baaaccckkk!
The weekend was long and tiring and I probably need a weekend to recover from it....but we had a great time.
The weather held all weekend. We only had one rain shower and it was in the middle of the night. It wasn't too hot during the day or too cool at night. It was pretty much perfect.
The kids got to ride their bikes around the campground. The girls made lots of friends to exchange addresses and phone numbers with. We went swimming and fishing. The fish were tiny, but the kids had fun.
Here's a few pics to show you the good time we had.
Check out my very spoiled pooch who laid half in and half out of the tent to avoid laying in the dirt!!
